MB Stone Care MB-2 Alkaline HD Heavy-Duty Stone, Tile & Grout Cleaner
MB-2 Alkaline HD is a super-concentrated, high-pH cleaner for restoration-grade deep cleaning. Its alkaline chemistry lifts mineral build-up, ground-in soil and cementitious haze from natural stone, ceramic and porcelain tile, and grout without attacking calcium-based stone the way acid strippers do. Dilution is adjustable from 3 to 8 fl oz per gallon (25-65 mL/L) so one bottle covers light film-lift through heavy restoration.
Features
- High-pH concentrate (pH 12.5 ± 0.5 neat) for restoration-grade soil removal
- Alkaline chemistry attacks dirt, not calcium carbonate — preserves polish and color on marble, travertine and limestone
- Readily biodegradable surfactants; formulated without butyl glycol
- Adjustable dilution: 3 fl oz/gal light, 6 fl oz/gal medium, 8 fl oz/gal heavy soil
- Works on natural stone, glazed and unglazed ceramic or porcelain tile, and cement grout
- Complete water solubility — rinses out of porous grout joints
- Available in 32 fl oz quart and 128 fl oz gallon
| Part No | Size | Format |
|---|---|---|
| MB-2QT | 32 fl oz (1 quart / 0.95 L) | Concentrate |
| MB-2GAL | 128 fl oz (1 gallon / 3.79 L) | Concentrate |
- Sweep or vacuum away loose grit and debris. Strip any wax or topical sealer first — coatings block chemical contact. Test on an inconspicuous area to confirm colorfastness.
- Mix with hot water: 3 fl oz per gallon (25 mL/L) for light soil, 6 fl oz per gallon (50 mL/L) for medium, 8 fl oz per gallon (65 mL/L) for heavy soil. Hot water maximizes surfactant activation.
- Apply liberally with a pump-up sprayer or microfiber mop until the joints stay wet; use a saturated sponge or cotton rag on counters and small areas.
- Let the solution dwell. Heavier contamination benefits from a longer contact window, up to 10 minutes. Never let the product dry on the surface.
- Agitate: nylon deck brush on tile faces, stiff short-bristle hand brush in grout joints. On large stone floors a 175 rpm machine with a white pad speeds the work.
- Extract the slurry with a wet/dry vacuum (or mop for small areas), then rinse twice with plenty of clean water.
- Once the surface is bone dry, buff to a uniform finish with a clean white nylon pad, then seal with MB-24 Plus Barrier to inhibit re-staining.
- Wear gloves throughout; add a mask if you are sensitive to odor. Read the Safety Data Sheet before use.

Which surfaces can I use this alkaline cleaner on?
Just about any hard surface that is not harmed by water: natural stone such as marble, granite, quartz and limestone, plus ceramic or porcelain tile and cement grout.
Is MB-2 safe for kitchen counters?
Yes. Rinse thoroughly as directed and follow with a daily cleaner such as MB-5 Stone & More before returning the surface to food service.
Can I use it every day on honed marble?
No. MB-2 is restoration-grade, not a daily wipe. Use it only when the soil load exceeds what a neutral daily cleaner can handle.
Do I need to prepare the surface first?
Yes. Remove all debris, strip any wax or topical sealer, and always test in an inconspicuous area before full application.
Does MB-2 protect against future staining?
No. It is strictly a cleaner. Follow with MB-24 Plus Barrier to seal the surface and inhibit staining.
What protective equipment should I wear?
Gloves are recommended, and a mask if you are sensitive to odor. Consult the Safety Data Sheet for full safety guidance.
