Alpha Core Bit Extenders
Alpha® Core Bit Extenders convert a rotary or hammer drill with an SDS-Plus shank into a dry core drilling setup with a 5/8"-11 female thread. Designed to reach hollow concrete blocks and other hard-to-access areas, the extenders are constructed from high-strength steel and pair with Alpha® diamond-tipped core bits to drill concrete, brick, pavers and stone.
Features
- Converts SDS-Plus rotary/hammer drills to 5/8"-11 thread for dry core drilling
- Extends reach into hard-to-access areas, including hollow concrete block walls
- High-strength steel construction for durability under load
- Available in 6" (Short) and 10" (Long) SDS-Plus shank lengths
- Compatible with diamond-tipped dry core bits (use without percussion)
| Part No | Size | Type | Threads | For Use On | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CBE4058 | 4" (102 mm) | 5/8"-11 Extender | 5/8"-11 | Core Drill / Hammer Drill | Extender (DST configuration) |
| CBESDSS | 6" (150 mm) | SDS-Plus Shank, Short | 5/8"-11 | Hammer Drill / Rotary Hammer | Shank Adapter, Pilot Bit and Screw |
| CBESDSL | 10" (250 mm) | SDS-Plus Shank, Long | 5/8"-11 | Hammer Drill / Rotary Hammer | Shank Adapter, Pilot Bit and Screw |
- Disengage hammer/percussion mode on the rotary hammer or hammer drill before installing the extender.
- Thread the Alpha® diamond core bit onto the 5/8"-11 female end of the extender.
- Install the included pilot carbide drill bit and screw to stabilize the start of the cut.
- Insert the SDS-Plus shank into the drill chuck and confirm a positive lock.
- Start drilling at low to moderate RPM with light, even pressure; do not apply hammer action.
- Withdraw the bit periodically to clear dust; vacuum the bore for dry coring.

Does Alpha offer a Spline Shank version?
No. Larger rotary hammers turn at insufficient RPM for diamond drilling, so Alpha does not produce a Spline Shank extender.
How deep can I drill with the extender?
Alpha® Laser Segmented Core Bits can be used up to 4" deep with the extender. For deeper applications, water cooling is recommended.
Can I dry-drill porcelain pavers with this setup?
Use the Laser Segmented Core Drill Bit on a high-speed angle grinder instead. Hammer drills and rotary hammers do not reach the speeds needed for porcelain.
Why must percussion be turned off?
Diamond grit cuts by continuous grinding at high peripheral speed. Percussion would chip the diamond layer and ruin the bit.
Do I need the pilot carbide drill bit?
Yes for hand-held use. The pilot bit stabilizes the start of the cut so the core bit does not walk on the surface.
Will this fit my existing tungsten-carbide core bit extender?
No. Thread sizes differ, so older tungsten-carbide extenders are not compatible with Alpha® Laser Segmented Core Bits.
